Last Post for a While

***NOTE: You may have noticed the drop-down menu at the top is gone!  The HTML widget got corrupted, so I have transferred everything to a new blog address (with some new fun added features, too)!  Please use that one instead: www.marywadeteaching.wordpress.com

Dear Class (and parents, too),

Since my doctor needs me to stay on bed rest for at least a few more weeks, this will be my last blog post for a while. As such, I want to make it as helpful as possible for homework and events so you can keep using it as a resource!
Before I list those things, though, I have to tell you all how much I miss you every day! This unexpected turn of events completely changed all my teaching plans this year, and it makes me crazy that I can't spell out a clear plan for you guys or even myself! However, know that no matter what, I have adored getting to know and learn from each one of you this year! Keep up all the amazing efforts this year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Wade

Our example Provocation today was incredible!  I loved reading all the issues come up that you really care about, and hearing your debates was one of my favorite parts of the day!  Thanks for all your hard work in understanding how an IB unit works so you can be fully prepared to make your own during Exhibition!!  :)
We will start watching CNN Student News during Word Study each day to help us develop awareness of what's going on, too!  Check out this awesome one from a couple of days ago!

We expanded our thinking about "Who We Are" to include all living organisms today, including plants and animals!  Great work in discovering that all living organisms inherit similar traits to their parents--even if that includes an interesting life cycle that causes them to not resemble parents at birth!

We also expanded on human inherited traits, thinking about the characteristics we've inherited inside our bodies, watching a couple videos that help show just how incredible the human body is!  The first is from an astrophysicist discussing the basic ingredients of everything--including human beings!  The second is an animation of what it looks like inside just 1 human cell--and we have billions of them with tons of different jobs as they make up our bodies!  Just sayin'--I think you are going to LOVE biology/physical science in upper grades!  :)

January 31, 2014

As you continue to dive into the 2nd half of this year with even higher 5th grade expectations, please especially work on putting your best effort into those homework journals--writing thorough reflections on your project progress every day, as well as following all the instructions on the project!  I'm looking forward to seeing how high you can all fly as you push your limits and making your last 2 terms of your elementary school experience your very best!
Have a wonderful weekend!
P.S. If you would like to write your homework project in a Kidblog post instead of writing it in your journal, I would be just fine with that!  Just make sure that you do the following: 1) tag it as "homework project," 2) Make the title something like "Week 15 Homework Project," & 3) Follow ALL the instructions on the project, labeling from Day 1, 2, 3, & 4 as well.

Homework
1) Week 16 homework project!    If you are still missing Week 13 project's, including submitting pictures, get that done, too!
2) READ & log your days read on the Ken Garff program. ($20 bonus!)
3) Spelling: Study at home
4) Missing Work! Stay on top of that this Term!
